Hosted at Drayton Manor and compered by everyone’s favourite weatherman Des Coleman, on Saturday 3rd June we welcomed colleagues, suppliers, clients and friends of D&C Engineers to mark our half century together.
The celebration was planned to commemorate a fabulous point in the history of D&C Engineers, which started out 50 years ago with Geoff Chatterley (who is still the owner and MD) carrying out maintenance and servicing to the concrete industry. Now, five decades later, the company has grown to more than 40 staff members and worked on major projects including HS1, HS2, Hinkley Point, the Elizabeth and Jubilee lines of the London Underground, Thames Tideway and several motorway infrastructure projects.
The event opened with the fabulous Des Coleman who gave an overview of the history of D&C and provided plenty of entertainment for all attendees; many who are fans of Des and watch him present the weather on ITV during their breaks at work.
Des Coleman was followed by MD and founder Geoff Chatterley who welcomed all those who gave up their time to attend the event.
As part of Geoff’s speech, he thanked his loyal staff and talked about the importance of apprenticeships, the role apprentices have played in building D&C into what it is today and the value of apprentices to the future of D&C.
Geoff also thanked all those who helped make the event a reality, including daughter Jody Young and Gavin at EBY Design for providing marketing material both before and for the event.
Company Director Bryn Dixon then took to the stage to deliver a heartfelt and passionate speech, on behalf of all the staff, about Geoff Chatterley and the success of the business under his careful guidance. This was followed by an entertaining and passionate impromptu speech by senior manager Stewart Wiggins.
Long service awards were also presented to three members of staff; Martin Brunt, Mitch Stringer and Lee Egginton who have all worked at D&C for over 25 years.
Also on the night, more than £2,500 was raised for St Giles Hospice, a local charity supported by D&C Engineers over the past several years. Entertainment was provided by vocalist Emma Jane, music by Gary’s band and a live magician who kept everyone guessing at how he delivered his tricks!
We’d just like to say a huge thank you to everyone that attended on Saturday and also a heartfelt thank you to all those who we have worked with over the past five decades who have helped to make D&C Engineers the industry-leader company that it is.
